Rainwater Harvesting- The Need Of The Hour!

Despite the technological advances that mankind has made a vast majority still do not have access to potable drinking water. We are all familiar with the fact that women in some villages have to walk hundreds of kilometers to bring home a few pots of drinking water. However, the fact that, there are areas in the major metros of this country, where families depend on water supplied by tankers once a week, might shock a few of us.

Though rainwater harvesting has been in practice from time immemorial in the form of kunds in the Thar desert, kul and bamboo irrigation methods and temple tanks, the importance of it had dwindled considerably. Traditional rainwater harvesting is still prevalent in rural areas, in surface storage bodies like lakes, ponds and irrigation tanks. temple tanks etc. In urban areas however, due to the shrinking of open spaces, rainwater has to be harvested in order to ensure that the ground water level goes up.

This worsened the situation and in the year 2000 I had to buy a tanker of water for the first time in my life of 55 years. However, soon after that there was a lot of pressure from the corporation to have rainwater harvesting done. Ever since we’ve got it done the water level in my well has definitely increased.”

According to Mr. Santosh Sebastian ex- senior marketing manager with Jain’s housing, “we make sure that we provide rain water harvesting and sewerage treatment plants in all the buildings that we construct. However, we make sure that only clean, high quality rainwater is allowed in to the bore well. Secondly, we make a bye pass arrangement in case there is a problem with, either the water quality or with the bore well itself in terms of silting.”

What are the advantages of rainwater harvesting?
According to Ms. Usha Kumar who had it done in her house a couple of years ago, it is not very expensive, but, has a lot of benefits - for instance in my house I have the water from the rooftops get chanellised into the ground and the other water is stored in a tank… Secondly, since I already had a bore well I was saved that expenditure, the other things I needed were- a row of soak pits, which were concealed, below the ground. Thirdly, you do not need to allocate separate space to have rainwater harvesting facilities.

How much does it cost?
Raju who is a plumber by profession, can now be called a rain water harvesting set up expert because of his experience in this area of work says the cost of setting up can vary. This is because it depends on two main factors- the area of the roof and the structures that will be used to harvest rain.

Rainwater harvesting has several advantages:
* Helps you cut down on your water bills (especially in cities where people have to buy water).
* Reduces demand on the municipal water supply.
* Makes efficient use of a valuable resource.
* Reduces the possibilities of the occurrence of natural calamities such as floods.
* Reduces soil erosion.
* Prevents the contamination of ground water.

Thus, rainwater harvesting is the need of the hour. As Ms. Sheila Dixit points out,” Unless we get rainwater harvesting as a movement we do not have a bright future and for that people have to be motivated to make this a habit." It is not something that we should do to ensure a better tomorrow for our future generation, but it is something we need to do to save the planet and the human race.

Vinegar was used in biblical times to treat infections & wounds. Since biblical times, workers have made their own kind of energy drink with vinegar & salt water to keep up energy levels while toiling in the hot sun. Vinegar is mentioned in the Bible almost as much as wine.

Vinegar has also been used as a food preservative. Our ancestors didn't have refrigeration & needed a way to preserve meats to prevent spoilage, as they couldn't consume the entire animal in one sitting. The acidic nature of vinegar slowed the harmful bacteria growth in foods. Soaking foods in vinegar solutions or "pickling" was one way to preserve foods.

Vinegar in modern times can be used as a household cleaning solution, fabric softener, sore muscle reliever, bath soak, hair conditioner,flavor enhancement to all kinds of foods, also a diet & nutrition remedy.

"CandleNight" Celebration

A celebration of the Summer solstices is being held over the whole wide world. There is a entire web site devoted to this celebration which asks everyone to turn off their electricity and use candlelight for two hours on the evenings of June 18th thru the 21st, 8:00 to 10:00 p.m.

They suggest doing something special for these two hours such as reading by candlelight, enjoying a quiet dinner with someone you love,listening to music under the stars. Think of the energy saved or just think of creating peace. This celebration is intended to instill a world wide coming togetherness by sharing a collective experience by candlelight.

The name of the event is called "CandleNight Summer Soltice 2006" They want us to take it slow and make a "wave of darkness" spread over the world together. Share by having a "Candle Night" party or just spend the time quietly with your family. You can write a letter by candlelight or my all time favorite thing to do nightly, take a bath by candlelight!

"Turn off the Lights, take it slow" is the motto which reminds us to just be and not to always look to another moment or action to make us happy. To simply enjoy our lives in this moment to truly know existence. To be aware of our surroundings, the sights, sounds, movements, and sensations we are present in.

"CandleNight" celebration is also a time for us to think about conserving energy and non-polluting our earth with toxins. Burning candles, especially natural wax candles
is a good way to express ourselves with the notion that we really do want and will create a cleaner more healthy world to live in.

Find Link Exchange Partners & Reciprocal Links Easily

Linking sites, link exchange programs or reciprocal links directory. These are the names given to websites where webmasters meet up in order to swap links with each other. Do not confuse these sites with link farms or other poor marketing schemes that will cause you to be penalized by Google and other search engines. I’ve done extensive research on reciprocal links exchange and found that the majority of the web pages listed in these directories have a good to very high page rank!

When ever in doubt about using a linking program ask yourself this. Is the method in which reciprocal links are being placed on my web site automated? If the answer is yes, tread carefully. Although there may be some legitimate ways of automatically creating reciprocal links, it’s one chance that I’m not willing to take right now. Any other process that speeds up or automates the exchange of reciprocal links is ok. I suggest that you manually build all your reciprocal links pages.

When I decided to begin my reciprocal links campaign, I started out by visiting other sites and looking for an email or contact for the owner or webmaster. Once I found their contact information, I would place their link on my site (in hopes that it would encourage them to link back) and then send them an email asking for a reciprocal links exchange. Not only was it terribly time consuming but the results were disastrous. I had to keep a huge spread sheet of who I was waiting to hear back from and I rarely if ever did! Thankfully I found an easier way to selectively target whom I wanted to trade URL's with and how fast I could do it. Following are reviews and comments on the programs that hopefully will be helpful to you in finding reciprocal links exchange partners and receiving high quality reciprocal links. I also provide some example of what may not be a good place to submit your URL.

Some reciprocal links sites list stringent requirements for becoming a member of their reciprocal links exchange program. For example, they charge a one-time fee of $19.95 to have your site listed with them. In my opinion, there are entirely to many free programs out there to actually pay a fee. However, the sites listed do appear to be high quality and if you are extremely choosy about whom you swap with, this may be a good investment.

Another example of reciprocal links exchange I’m not fond of is a site that requires their link on your home page. Seems somewhat unfair to me. They place your URL in a huge directory and then want extra special placement in return. Some of these I’ve visited don’t even have good page rank. These are not considered to be good reciprocal links. I recommend you stay clear of sites like this. Again, there are just to many places that will offer a fair reciprocal links exchange with you if sought out.

The best reciprocal links programs are free to join and give their members nice benefits like having some excellent articles worth reading. I would encourage you to spend some time downloading and studying some or all that you can find. There are normally several main categories to either list your site in or search for other reciprocal links partners. One membership I belong to has a nifty tool that checks your link popularity with several search engines. Another offers the opportunity to become a sponsor that will place you at the top of your chosen category. Supposedly this brings you ten times as many hits and more reciprocal links requests. I have yet to try it but may do so in the future. Another site I belong to also keeps track of how many people have clicked on your URL from their directory.

Formulate a set of criteria for yourself in regards to what type of reciprocal links exchange you’re looking for in a reciprocal links program and then begin using search engines to find them. Here’s a good place to start: free reciprocal links. If you haven’t already, be sure to visit our reciprocal links directory and submit your site for inclusion.

There are many different techniques of building houses or dwellings using Natural materials or recycled materials. Some of these building techniques have been around for centuries. People who first came to this country to found the land built in this manner. They used what building materials were available to them from their local environment because they did not have any other choice or funds to use more expensive materials.

One of the advantages of building in this way is creating a more sustainable world. We aren't using up all the natural resources. It's less expensive also. We will be working with nature instead of abusing it & treating it like a commodity for our own purposes without replenishing it.

We also are becoming self-sufficiant & not relying on large Corporations to feed, build & warm us. We can create the energy it takes to light and heat our houses. We will become more independent and provide for ourselves without worrying about the costs of everything going up.

There are all kinds of materials that can be used to build with. Straw, Stone, Clay, Hair, Dung, Sand are all used to build with. Recycled materials can be used from mining dumps for glass, doors, fixtures, windows, bricks. Alot of materials are often discarded and can be reused instead of leaving them to make mountains of thrown out stuff!

Omega 3 fatty acids and protein are great for healthy skin. Hair, skin and nails are mostly made of protein, though the minerals, vitamins, and phytochemicals we get from the best type of carbohydrates - fruit and vegetables - are also crucial if skin care is your goal.

Protein is needed to repair cells, it is important for energy levels, balancing blood sugar levels, and is involved with glutathione production. Glutathione is an important antioxidant, and antioxidants are essential components of eating your way to beauty.

So what are some good sources of protein that are somewhat under-represented in our average diet?

Fish is excellent as it supplies both protein, and the omega 3 fatty acids, which are believed to contribute to skin health. The oily fish like salmon, tuna, cod and mackerel are good natural sources of omega 3, that have the advantage of avoiding the reflux problem associated with many fish oil supplements. Being a whole food, these fish also have DMAE, which is excellent for protecting cellular membranes and improving skin tone. (Angyal) Recommended sources of DMAE from fish are anchovies, sardines, and wild salmon.

Canned salmon is a good option, generally. Although it may seem strange to encourage people to eat canned salmon over fresh salmon, it has some important advantages that are the direct result of farming practices for fresh fish. According to Erica Angyal, the author of Gorgeous Skin In 30 Days, canned salmon is typically wild salmon. Wild salmon and farmed salmon that was raised in crowded pens made of nets (think of an underwater battery cage), have some important differences in nutrient value.

The food farmed salmon are fed is very different to what wild salmon eat. Wild salmon eat other sea residents such as shrimp and krill. And it is this diet that gives them the lovely pink color we associate with salmon. On the other hand, farmed salmon are fed soybean pellets and other cereal based food, which changes their ratio of essential fatty acids. They become characterized by higher levels of saturated fats and omega 6 fatty acids (linoleic acid), which we get plenty of in our diets anyway, and their levels of the beneficial omega 3 fatty acids become lower. Given that the whole point many people eat fish for is to change this very ratio in themselves, it seems to negate the point somewhat.

On top of this, farmed salmon, like their counterparts in the poultry and beef industries, are fed antibiotics to keep them healthy and protect the farmer's investment. There is an expectation of cost effectiveness and market value that determines the type of conditions farmed salmon grow in. To compensate for the lack of pink color, colors are added that can be made both naturally and synthetically. Whether they are natural or synthetic is generally up to the farmer.

This is not to say farmed salmon is bad, or has no omega 3 fatty acids. It does, and it is better than nothing. And fresh fish is a lovely meal. But like eating free range eggs in preference to battery cage eggs, wild salmon is an infinitely better nutritional choice.

Virtual Reality Vs Reality

I 've been watching my boyfriend's computer game "World Of Warcraft" while he's been playing it because it is about a natural, magical world with gourgeous vistas & lush forested landscapes! The characters are a mixture of elves, goblins, undead, humans & animals that have all kinds of different skills and spells they can cast! They can summon up special Demons and Creatures that help cast their various spells along with their Masters to eliminate the enemy. Pets of all types can be called up to follow you about your travels to exotic, mysterious, lands.

It has a complete community set up for buying and trading items, it's also interactive so you can talk with, go on quests, dance together, travel, fight, & trade or auction items with other people all over the world who are online playing "World Of Warcraft".

There is an eerie feeling of being actually living inside the game as a real character because you are living thru the characters!.... It is as if you were watching a cartoon movie & jumped inside the screen and started to live there as the characters you were watching and moving around as you willed them! There's a surreal quality as you travel to different continents on a flying ship, a large bat or ride a horse with flaming hoofs and fire roaring out of it's eye's & nose to villages and lands fighting fantastic creatures! All of this is in real time!

The sounds are there too. My favorite crickets chirping, birds singing, wolves snarling and owls softly alighting. They recently added weather effects so it rains, storms, has dust clouds. The game even has a 24 hour time of morning to evening so you see the sun setting into the night sky with a full moon into morning's rise the next day.

Natural Sounds

The sounds of Nature are one of the most beautiful and soothing of all we listen to. I live in a city with neighborhoods that have yards & trees, but my apartment is on a busy street with stores & restaurants. Not exactly the area to be in for natural, earthy sounds.

While I enjoy the interesting boutiques & gourmet eateries there's not alot of those sweet natural sounds that calm and relax your body and mind.

My favorite sound in the whole world is the sound of crickets chirping & even better are Spring Peepers! Those little, tiny, frogs that start their wonderful, loud, peeping noises that signify the coming of warm weather.

I like watching my boyfriend's computer game "World Of Warcraft" because it's a fantasy game with gorgeous scenery, fantastic landscapes, creatures, and those amazing, soft, sounds of nature.

There are many parks here in New Haven that I go to read, relax and just look up at the sky, lying in the grass and soaking up rays from the early spring sun. Listening to the song birds & squirrels as they go about their daily business.

We want to move to a forested area & build a self- substainable retreat where we will be surrounded by trees & wild animals. I want to live or be near an old growth forest if possible. It would be sweet & such a comfort to dwell among the canopy of huge, shadowy, living, things instead of mowed lawns & crowds of man made buildings and loud noise. Instead of voices of people yelling out side in the street & car sounds there would be owls hooting & crickets chirping. The beautiful, lovely music of the natural world lulling us with it's mystical, other worldly, calling.

Creating Flyers with Scent Samples!

I made a new flyer to promote my gourmet scented natural wax candles with the real scent samples that I made the other day from candy mold in the musical note motifs! The flyer has tear offs & the real scent samples are stapled to the tear offs.

This is the first time I have done promos with objects attached to them. It's very cute & interesting with the scented musical notes dangling from the bottom of the flyer. It adds a 3D appeal also engages ones senses with the lure of fragrance.

I had seen around the street here in New Haven a chocolate cafe shop add stapled coupons in a different bright pink color to the already bright acid green flyer. They did extremely well as people love to get free or discounted things. His was for $1 off on some food item.

Another great attention getting way to promote your business!

Making Scents & Samples!

I just melted some of my Apricot Freesia votives to make into scent samples to hand out with brochures & postcards. It made my whole apartment smell incredible!! MMMMMM ... how wonderful to have such an aromatic, fruity/floral, scent lingering from my kitchen.

One of the many pleasures of being in a scented gourmet candle business. How lovely to be able to make money from one of my passions! It feels soooo nice to love what one does for a living. Luxurious & soothing are some of the feelings I have from doing my marketing activites.

I will also put these scent samples on the new flyers I designed the other day that have tear-offs. I hope that the Apricot Freesia scent will capture people's attention with the scent-throw they give off. They are also a very pretty color peach & are in the shape of musical notes & motifs to add interest.

I got the candy molds online at ebay for a couple bucks & thay make 30 samples to a mold so I'll be able to give out alot of them!

I am still trying to figure out how to get my blog to work! I found out I couldn't post using real links instead of just putting my web site address in the post as a post. The reason I couldn't make a post is because I was using Opera!

There's no text formatting avaiable in Opera! Only in Mozilla also Internet Explorer! UGH! All the stupid little things you gotta find out after trying to do them millions of times & it's always one THING YOU DIDN"T DO!!!

Passive income is not a new concept. Otherwise known as residual income or royalties, this type of income stream has been a norm in Hollywood for years.

For example, many actors will make money off a television show they starred on years after the show aired live. While the show airs in syndication, the actor receives residual-checks in the mail for work they did so long ago.

This actor no longer trades time for money. Instead, she trades a product (the TV show) for a regular check and her time is now freed up so she can work on other things.

However, passive income gives a false view of how to build a business. The problem lies with the word passive. According to the dictionary, passive means "receiving or subjected to an action without responding or initiating an action in return."

In other words, passive-income gives the impression that you don’t have to do anything and you’ll get loads of moolah in return.

Like any business, there’s a lot of work up front. You have to promote, sell and get the word out about your product or service.

Instead, I encourage you to think about creating an active income-stream. According to the dictionary, active means "marked by or involving direct participation."

In order to make dinero while you sleep, you have to directly participate in creating that income-stream.

As with our actor, she spent years in the limelight working hard to give her fans what they wanted. After all that hard work, she can just sit back and enjoy her residual-income.

Creating an active income-stream enables you to:
1. Learn the shortcuts so you generate money faster. Selling a product as an affiliate or as distributor in a network marketing company can help you to learn from the mistakes of others, plus gives you a support system so you’re not alone.
2. Understand that marketing and selling are a key part of the process. You still have to promote the product in order to drive sales. You clearly understand that you need to use articles, blogs, pay-per-click advertising and other methods to drive traffic to your website and turn those visitors into customers.
3. Think realistically about how much moolah you will make. You understand that like with any business, you won’t make millions as soon as you launch. Instead, an active-income stream will generate a few dollars in the first few months, but will grow as you continue to promote your product.
4. Understand that you don’t need to spend thousands to create an active income stream. Some Internet marketing gurus will charge you a few thousand dollars for a five-day course. Others will say that you’ll need to spend tens of thousands to buy an ABM or vending machine. Instead, you can easily create a product from what you know. This strategy will cost you much less in time and money. This month’s teleclass will teach you more about this.

Adwords! The Magic Bullet?

My sponsor who joined the candle company that I am a distributor for has told me that she gets all her recruits online from Google adwords! She joined a couple of months before I did. She has a healthy downline & is a Diamond Distributor! That means she has at least 5 in her downline to qualify for a Diamond. She has more than 5! I don't have any downline as of yet. I plan on being a Diamond just have to put everthing in place.

I will create my Google Adword account & see how I do. I need to bid on words that aren't too competitive but still have a draw. I also don't have a big budget so can only bid up to maybe $.10 -$.20 a click & how many clicks per day depending on my monthly budget.

I will research best adwords to use for my candle business so I will get the most out of my advertising dollar.

Debate Over Parrafin vs Natural Wax Candles

There is a debate on the Mia Bella Candle forum at WAHM that I post in. It's about the health issue of parrafin candles vs natural vegetable wax candles. Someone quoted a article by the National Candle Association that parrafin wax was not toxic & was no harm to users health. That the black soot emitted from the parrafin candles was minimal & no real danger to users.

I don't know about that. Would you risk taking the chance with yourself & others of inhaling black soot that gets all over the walls & furniture? It may or may not be a huge source of pollution as inhaling exhaust by laying on the ground next to the exhaust pipe but why do it if you can burn a natural wax candle without that black soot?

I am studying more on affiliate programs besides the zillions of other things I've been studying about marketing my business online. I still have alot more to learn there's just so much information out there it can be completely overwhelming.

Try as I might to only get a few ebooks or newsletters, I sign up for many a day. I read so much I only hope the info seeps in by sheer repetition. I do try to apply what I learned daily. The internet is the place for up to date info.

Has anyone started an online business & made money right away? I know my sponsor for my online, natural, scented, gourmet candle busines has. How did she do it? She works for a internet marketeer & knows how to set up a businesses advertising online so it gets traffic. She also builds opt in forms to collect email addresses. That's a major to do with gaining traffic!

Affiliate Programs

I just started submitting to affiliate programs in the hopes that I will make some money in addition or to surpass my gourmet candle business. I joined quite a few so far & put them on my website. I 'm new at this & not sure how exactly to promote them. I started with putting them on my Links Page in a large group so it looks like a art collage with all the graphic banners together. I refer to it as my private Mall. I used a sub head that says you can shop online in one place & save time & money by doing so.

Not too sure this is the best approach as I read that people have banner blindness & just skip over the banners completely. I also did place one banner on the bottom of each page & that looks tasteful. I picked the nicest looking banners I could find to try & blend them with each page. I also was selective on what companies I would place ads from. I want sophisticated, quality products that go well with my scented gourmet candles.

I also want to support affiliates that sell services for marketing & promoting other's small & home based businesses as I also recruit & sponsor people with my candle business.

Natural Online Marketing

A great way to market your product or service is to market online on chat groups & forums. I recently joined Ryze.com. I joined a day ago & have already met and joined extremely interesting, highly dynamic networkers. These people are incredible, savvy business people who know how to make a business work.

There are also online parties where you can sell products to friends & new people with out having to leave your house. Another great way to keep the flow going.

How Are Natural Wax Candles Different From Parrafin?

First of all natural wax candles are made from natural materials & plants which include soy, palm, bay berry, & bees wax. Parrafin is made from petroleum by products. The soot that is emitted from a parrafin candle is highly toxic & can pollute your home, lungs, & leave black marks on your walls, furniture, ceiling. The wax is also hard to clean up once it settles on something. Natural wax candles burn cleaner, virtually no black soot, are soap & water clean up, & last longer due to a lower burning temperature.

The company that I joined as a distributor for makes a natural vegetable wax candle that is also triple scented. I have experimented with different soy candles & found them to be very pleasant & clean burning also long lasting. Some can also be used as a moisturizer when melted. Another company that I'm a sales rep for In The Raw located in California makes a 100% organic soy candle that can be used
as a moisturizer.

I will never use a parrafin candle again after finding out about & burning natural wax candles.

What Is Natural Earth Dreams?

I started this blog to explore & give ideas to share with others different natural ways of being on the earth. I recently started an online business with a company that makes Natural Gourmet Candles and Body/Bath products. I wanted to secure my financial future & work doing something that I could do from home plus online.

They have a cleaner burning, longer lasting, natural vegetable wax candle. The bath soaps are really silky on your skin & also good for it. They are made with natural soy that conditions & improves your skin. You can also use the soap as a shampoo & for shaving.

I also am a sales rep for In The Raw Organic Body/Bath products.I really love this line too because it uses organic soy & essential oils with very little synthetic fillers as alot of other so called natural products do. The feel on your skin of these products really is fresh & light!
